Limped to the dealer
I spoke too soon yesterday..........
I'm off work today so we decided to take a shopping trip with the kids. About 10 mins from home, the car went into limp home mode and had absolutely no power at all. I was driving down the road with the hazard lights on. I spoke to Land Rover Assistance and they said as I was mobile I should try to carry on to the dealer which I did.
Got to the dealer and it was pretty chaotic there, a big transporter unloading cars and customers coming and going. I pulled into the customer area and there was a guy there cleaning the cars on display. I put the window down to explain to him what had happened and asked where I should park.
Now, I know this wasn't professional but it was very telling, his reply was "put it over there with all the other knackered Discovery's" I parked next to three others, two were 17 plate and one had a private plate. In the window of one there was a notice saying 'Do not start'.
I went into reception and you can tell from the response that they're having problems with these cars. So we've just picked up a 66 plate HSE and we're now having a coffee before continuing to the shops.
We trade the Q5 in tomorrow and pick up the Macan so it will be interesting to see how different things are with that car and dealer service.
I'll keep you all posted. Maybe the trick here is to let a new model 'bed-in' before buying one and allow for all of the faults to be shaken out.
When we go back to the dealer to collect I will speak to the sales guy about getting a deal to trade the car in for an identical car when they bring out the next model year and try to get them to guarantee a price, not sure how much joy I'll have on that one.
When I'm not in the operating theatre, I'm mountain biking, spending time with my family, running and socialising. I have a Discovery 5 HSE Lux with pretty much every option ticked. This is my first ever Land Rover. Been a rocky road with regards to reliability but we're getting there.

We have about 1700 on the clock now. It went to the dealer on a truck about a month ago if you remember but it's been ok since. No idea what's up today.

They just called to say the car is fine. They let it shut down, they cleared fault codes and did a road test. All fine apparently.
Oh well, we'll pick it up later to see.

Hi Doc
Sorry to hear of the news I am sure there is a lot of worried D5 potential owners out there like myself. Did they give you an explanation as to what happened.

I'll find out more when we go to collect later. Clearing fault codes doesn't really fill me with confidence.

Getting some lunch now then going to collect.
All I can say is I'm glad LR sticks to making cars and not equipment for operating theatres!

Doing the equivalent of turning it off and back on again does not fill me with confidence that it'll be a lasting fix.
Did they say what the fault code was?

Well they said they cleared a number of fault codes but the cars are pretty good at 'self-healing' whatever that's supposed to me.
So we just go back home and my wife went to leave again to head to the supermarket and it's given up the ghost again so now we're waiting for LRA to arrive.

When they arrive, get LRA to plug in the diagnostics and tell you what the fault codes that are showing are. Important background information.

AA guy phoned me and I told him of the days events and he didn't even bother coming. Sent a truck to collect it. Just waiting for a loan car to be dropped off.

I was wondering if it was going to be the Silver JLR van or the Yellow AA van that attended. When the AA attended my D5 they didn't even have the software on their tablet to read the D5 codes.

Well here's a contrast........
I just called the LR dealer to see what's happening, they are trying to get me a courtesy car from another branch as all of theirs are out at the moment. Asked me if we had bought supermarket fuel as that might not suit the Discovery. The answer was no, we use the local Shell garage but surely the car can run on supermarket fuel. Anyway, they will let me know as soon as they can.
While on the phone to them, I had a voicemail from the Porsche dealer, so I called them back. A courtesy call to check everything was ok for collection tomorrow of the Macan to replace the Q5. I explained the problem I had been having with LR. Straightaway they offered to deliver the Macan to me tonight if I needed them to and I was told that my p/ex could stay with me for another week without charge or penalty if it helped. I think LR could take a leaf out of their book!
