Well am glad I was right for once. Laughing

I forgot too mention that the 22's were Pirelli Scorpions All Season stock tyres, not summer tyres which I incorrectly stated, oops!

They were not run in, hence all the extra road noise may have dimmed down once the tyres had possibly worn in a bit??

I have found the Pirellis on the D4 were excellent as well. Far better than the Goodyears I replaced them with which wore down at an incredible rate. (Seems you pay more for longer lasting higher quality tyres).

Low profile tyres are usually alot more sticky due too the rubber composition used and heat up quicker, hence grip alot better. I have had Potenzas and Yokohamas on my cars and are excellent tyres, especially for track days.

Yes I definitely agree with the trust bit. Like I said the 2 different wheel sizes made it seem like 2 completely different vehicles. I was alot more cautious whilst driving with the 20's than the 22's.

Mind you it doesnt help me, as am used too driving a saloon car which is lower and handles alot better than the skyscraper Rolling with laughter

Am sure the D5 would handle like its on rails as the engineers have done their homework. It's just a matter of getting used too the car and knowing it's limits.

Maybe see if you can get a test drive of a demo car with 21/22 inch wheels. I also drove the demo with 21 inch wheels and it was less noisier and quieter than the 22's.

At least if you notice a big difference in the handling, you could always get a bigger set of wheels on ebay Very Happy

If that's the case I want first dibs on your 20's ok Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up

Ps apologies for the 3 long posts Wink

    Sanity check Rolling with laughter

No problem, glad I was of some help. Thumbs Up

Personally I prefer the sure-footedness of the 22's, plus as it's raining here alot, I rather a wider tyre. Too be honest the ride and noise is nowhere near as bad as some other cars I have had in the past. Just having driven the 20's for 2 weeks and straight onto the 22's I could tell there was a difference with regards too tyre noise and ride quality. Still comfy though. If am frankly honest, if I had not driven with 20's and had the 22's from day 1, then I would not have noticed, but as I said the handling on the 22's is more like the handling on my car, as that is what an used too. I keep forgetting the D5 is not a rally inspired car though!! Shocked Rolling with laughter

I test drove a Range Rover Sport and was seriously considering it instead, until the Discovery was confirmed it would pass US emissions. I thought the RRS held the road amazingly well for as big as it was, but the one I was considering had Adaptive Dynamics and 21" wheels, so that made a difference as well.

But, the Disco has more features standard at a lower price, at least the way things work here in the States, and I intended for it to be a bit of a family expedition vehicle. If I wanted a sporty ride, I would have bought a Jaguar.

We were also looking at the RR, but like a saloon car it still has only 5 seats, (well 5 + 2), so that was knocked on the head. May as well buy an estate car the wife said.

The D5 is the family car, and having had several previous Discos, it's handy having 2 extra seats, if either of us are doing the Sat school football run, as there is always someone looking for a lift. Not too mention the wife's epic shopping trips, the big boot is a must, even bigger than the RR. Like you say, your getting far more kit for less than even the entry level RR, so the D5 was the obvious choice.

(Am currently looking at the 2018 RR SVR, so that I can still have a bit of fun. Will have too raid the piggy bank after paying the Xmas bills, so fingers crossed) Laughing

I do like Jaguar, and I believe the same 5 litre supercharged engine thats in the cars is shared with the SVR. However I prefer the look of the SVR over the Jaguar F Pace, as am not keen on the massive black, bland, front hexagonal grill. It just kills the looks of an otherwise decent looking car. Shocked
