SD6 2019 Oil dilution.
SD6 Oil dilution.
Hi,
I am not far off about to order a new 2019 D5, what I am slightly concerned about is the oil dilution issues. How are things going with this newer engine, I have read lots of articles about the single turbo engine and am hoping that the newer engine has few oil issues.
The engine I’m after is the 3.0L 306 bhp version.
I have just heard today it is cured, any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks in advance....

With the outstanding campaign N222 it should be fixed for the MY18 TD6 as well, and hopefully it works, and they will do the same for the MY17. No idea about the MY19 as it is still a bit early, but if JLR hasn’t fixed it after 3 years of well known issues, I doubt they will fix it at all.

I’m 1,250 miles into ownership and first service interval still reporting correctly... fingers crossed!

From Bigwhiteone:
‘There is a major software and systems upgrade (released October 2018) that ‘allegedly ‘ fixes the problem by changing the way the software measures the oil contamination and assess its continued viscosity: that’s the sum total of my technical capability completely exhausted. When upgrading the software your dealer should also change the filter and oil to recalibrate everything’

I hope so too, I’m going back to the dealer now every 7 - 8 weeks.
This time it didn’t even give countdown, Just service required.
I’m getting just 7000 km between services with mostly freeway traveling.

Do bear in mind that the engine has no way of assessing the level of oil contamination, the software purely counts the number of times that the engine is switched off mid generation cycle. So, unless there have been significant hardware improvements, or a new way of regenerating the DPF, I’d be concerned that they’d simply changed the acceptable amount of engine stops between services and to hell with the contamination.
I hope I’m wrong and they’ve hit on a magical cure

Based on my oil analysis on the Td6 engine, the software over-estimates dilution by 3% up to 6.1% (i.e., zero detectable FIO, but the vehicle thinks it's time for a change). So maybe this isn't a bad thing.

My car has just had the N222 update, but dealer told me the car is not fixed and to expect repeat early services. Mine managed only 4,700 miles.

Mine managed only 5500 km ( I thought it was 7000 km ) between services
I oil sampled again, so will wait for the results.
