Just thinking as you do. Maybe the supposed shortage of tow bars is more to do with the towing issue. Just sayin!

A few thoughts before we all panic too much.
Is the caravan loaded the same as when you towed it with the D4, reason i ask is that if we run our Swift elegance 645 lightly loaded it is a bit bouncy, it always runs better loaded and with a high nose weight.
What are your Tyre pressures like in the rear tyres
What size wheels do you have fitted and what load rating are the tyres?

Hi Lee I think the tow assist is more about reversing wrt the setting up procedure. That's what I gleaned from the link I posted earlier. Yes the brakes are applied if it feels a swaying motion but I don't think you have to set up for that. However I have been wrong before.

As the Alko ATC system is constantly 'grabbing' the brakes of the trailer slightly during driving, that's what makes me wonder if the cars TSA is detecting those actions and interpreting them as instability, thereby activating the ATC, which combined with the TSA is making the caravan feel and behave strangely. The only way to find out for sure, is to disconnect the ATC for the journey home.

its not the lane assist thing causing issues is it?
I switch mine off on narrow roads/lanes as it can be quite drastic when there is limited room on the road.
Works fine on the motorway though so long as I indicate?

Mine is off permanently here in Devon, it is far too irritating on our local roads..

No experience of caravan towing
Lane assistance I like, have learned not to "fight" it relaxed hands & it's excellent.
Try fighting it you & car overreacts.

My D4 is as good a tow car as you can buy but if the tyres are not inflated to their top pressure for pulling my van it swings all over the place. Same thing applies to the van, it needs to be spot on to be wobble free.

If you increase the tyre pressures then make sure you tell the on-board computer!!

Is that because of the TPM system ?
