Rubber connector for tailgate flexible cover/shelf
My 2023 Disco 5 has a short flexible cover attached to the tailgate, to meet up with the extending load cover. There is a large central substantial clip holding it in place but a flat piece of Land Rover branded rubber each side with lugs that have broken. Anyone know what these pieces of rubber are called, what the part number is and the best place to get replacements? (Picture shows on with the lugs broken off.). Looks like I should be able to take the cover apart to fit new rubber pieces if I can get them. Thanks.
At last Just found “Car Rear Trunk Sunshade Clip Tailgate Curtain Buckle Small Holder For Land Rover Discovery 5 L462 2017+” from aliexpress which is what I need, also found on Amazon but very expensive.
I noticed one of the lugs on mine broke within a couple of months of ownership. I went to the local dealer to order a replacement, but they said that part wasn't available by itself, and I'd need to buy the whole 'short flexible cover' with the main central clip and two rubber lugs each side as one. Cost was over £200.
At that point, it was the end of the conversation. It seemed to hold fine with one lug missing, but with two, I can see it probably won't. Even so, I took the part off completely, left it in my garage, and haven't missed it one bit.
(BTW, welcome to the forum! Posting pics is a right hassle on here, and not at all easy. Your pic didn't show up, for me at least)

Thanks for the response. I don’t think I put a link just mentioned Aliexpress and Amazon. At the moment I am probably just going to take the sun shade out as if I replace the rubber I expect they will break again because of the dog cage in my boot most of the time.
Well I'll let you know if the bits I ordered (and yes, found it via a quick Google, thank you) are any good. I'm certainly not expecting them to be Genuine LR parts
But let's see if they fit!

The reason the Amazon (and Ebay) parts are more expensive is that you'd be paying for the complete L shaped side brackets (x2) which include the little rectangular clips or lugs. I had hard plastic type clips on my 2017 HSE and the left side one was broken when I bought the car. I ended up just scanning the broken clip as well as the right side one and 3D printing replacements in slightly more flexible ABS plastic.
With AliExpress, you're only paying for the 2 little rectangular-ish clips...which is a good thing since they're the parts that seem to always break... a good thing aside from the shipping times from China. The replacement clips are also made out of rubber instead of plastic so they'd be less likely to break again (in my case). I was tempted initially to just buy the rubber replacements since they were cheap enough...but for all the creative effort it took to 3D print a pair (left and right) in ABS, it was a no brainer. Saved myself the cost of a big jar of Douwe Egberts
The clips and brackets are also available separately from Alibaba.com and a few other sites in the US...but you'd have Trumpy tariffs added to the shipping costs of course
The first thing I ever 3D printed after I bought my first printer 3 years ago was a soap dish for the shower...which we still use to this day
3D printers are fairly handy things once you get away from the idea that they're only for hobbyists and used to print little plastic figurines or chess pieces...basically, if it can be made out of plastic you can edit or design it with some 3D design software on your PC or Laptop (I use Blender or 3ds Max), reproduce it exactly or even improve it. There are also websites full of other people's designs and ideas for practically everything you can think of to download for free.
I've printed off spanner and socket trays for my toolchest drawers, wall mounted holsters and brackets to hang cordless tools, batteries and chargers in the workshop...loads of useful stuff. I have a couple of fairly decent printers now and they're well used
Yup, I bought a laser cutter/etching head for one of the printers too so I can etch logos and names on wood or personalise leather stuff like wallets...or the little belt loop strap on the leather cover for my keyfob. I even printed that plastic belt clip as well. A 3D Printer is a fairly useful tool to have around the house.
Someone asked me what the other plastic fob on my keyring was for thinking it was a garage door remote, it's a remote for the Webasto heater on the D5.
The designing of unique stuff in Blender or 3ds Max takes a bit of learning (it's a bit akin to technical drawing in school) but otherwise, 3D printing is fairly plug in and play. Just download the blueprints on the PC and set it to print.
I noticed the estimate was 4-28 Jine when I was looking but end of July is very slow.
Well forget the July estimates, they turned up today. They look and feel identical to the Genuine Land Rover part, save for a missing LR logo. Either way, fitted tonight in seconds and works a treat.
Thanks again for flagging this, chuffed to finally have this part back on the car!
