Do I need a new battery?
Good evening,
I have owned my 2017 D5 3.0 HSE since October 25 and really love it.
My only query is if I leave the car for a week or more, I get the 'Low Battery - Start Engine' come up on the dash. Is this a common thing or should I renew the battery?
I tend to user the car only for longer runs as I understand they don't like being used on short journeys in town as it can clog up the emissions systems. Otherwise I would use it a lot more.
Many thanks

Hi Phill.
I get the same if I don't use the car for a few days. Usually a run around the island for an hour sorts it out for a few days at least...we only have 25 miles of road up here so unfortunately most of my journeys are short stop/start. I usually stick a bottle of Wynn's DPF cleaning fluid in the tank when I top up with diesel, it helps stop the ash build up in the DPF a bit.
Besides that, short journeys or not...turn the auto/stop start off during those trips through the town, your engine and battery will thank you for it...just as the car will with being used instead of being parked up.
Once every few weeks, I head over on the ferry to Mainland and blast the car around the decent A roads over there for a while to give it a decent run out at higher revs until I get the local ferry back home.
Like yours, mine is a 2017 HSE and I suspect the battery is now 9 years old and a bit tired...I'll be looking to replace it at some point with a decent Bosch 95AH one, the OE battery is 80AH so the Bosch (or similar AGM brand) will be better suited to the limitations of living on a small rock in the north sea.
I usually buy from here

My 2017 still did that even after replacing the battery.
I have a habit of leaving the car unlocked at home (in the rear of our property). Do that a couple of nights and the battery will be asking to be recharged.
The funny thing is…it’s stopped doing it so much recently.
Since having software updates reloaded at main dealer I have noticed several changes to the vehicle. One is that the auto stop/start seems to kick in more regularly…even after shortish journeys. It’s as if the battery is getting a better charge now.
Just my observation.
