    Dog transport

I have a dog and we travel a lot with a family and take a dog with us. So the question is how you transport a dog in the discovery? My previous car was a Multivan without leather and so on, so there was enough space inside for all the members including a dog and I did not bother about leather interior scratches and so on, but I do now. So the dog should start travelling in the boot space. What would you suggest?

    - Just in the boot space. Like that:

Problem - the dog can jump in the second raw. If you have some luggage it can hurt the dog.

    - Car transport crate
You can separate the dog and the luggage
Problem - very limited space for the dog to move.

    - Original partition grid from JLR
    Part Number: VPLRS0375

Works good, you can give the dog one or other side depending on the amount of baggage you have. Very secure.
Problem - very expensive and bulky. Should be hell to install and deinstall when the 3rd raw is needed.
Do you have any experience with this kind of dividers?

I don’t currently have a dog so won’t be needing anything in the D5, however I have carried dogs in all my cars for many years.

I have never used manufacturers parts but always purchased from a specialist cage/grill company. I have used products from Guardsman and Barjo both based in UK but I’m sure they ship.

They both offer various options depending on your needs. I have previously used custom cages, the advantage with these is they are easily removable (for when you need 7 seats) but disadvantage is no luggage space if you buy full width cage. You may be able to get a 3 quarter width cage for the D5 leaving a small space. With a cage you can also still fold the 2nd row. Generally custom cages will maximize all space.

    thanks,
Barjo has no LRD5 in the list of the supported cars, but Guardsman has and much cheaper

It’s worth calling both of them as they don’t always have everything shown online.

Guardsman have been around for a long time and I think they make kit for some manufacturers. I bought my first cage from them in 1979 for a Ford Cortina Estate Smile

That looks a great setup ..... is that an original LR luggage net ? .... I’m just about order one as I frequently carry lumpy kit in the back.

Genuine LR part, easily removed and folds into a little storage bag. Fixed via the lashing eyes in the boot floor and fixings in the roof.

    £86 from main dealer.

Been using a D5 recently, just using it for the smaller dogs as all 3 don't fit comfortably (sticking with D4 for that). Cant comment on the guards as don't have any for it but one thing I have noticed is the side carpets really cling onto mud for some reason which I wouldn't have thought when you feel them and when the dog shakes off it really absorbs too. Obviously use a rubber boot mat but also consider some kind of protection on the sides if your dogs like the mud we have soon built up a doggy smell Laughing Thumbs Up

Any excuse for a pic of a pooch

I'm using a guard from Travall.
Half height - seems to work very well - not too difficult to remove as needed either.
