Sounds to be revving although not??

    Hi All

Bit of a random one but my D5 (69 plate) sounds to be revving more than usual, although the rev counter reads fine.
Really quite noticeable at around 45-55mph.
Even my wife and son have noticed when they have driven it recently.
No idea what it might be, apart from perhaps a slight hole in the exhaust perhaps but I'm clutching at straws.
Only other thing is could it be related to having the "charging system fault detected" warning being on!!!

    Cheers

    Noise sorted.
Turned out to be a failed near side wheel bearing.
Alternator replaced at same time. Hopefully sorting out charge fault issues.
    Thankfully both under warranty

Good result in the end Slug. Thanks for following the post up with a resolution...may well help someone with a similar issue. Thumbs Up

I've got exactly the same issue now...OS front wheel bearing is rumbling. I ordered a new complete bearing hub since it's far easier than faffing about knocking out and pressing in a new bearing. Hopefully it'll arrive this week and I'll get it fitted...the drone from the knackered bearing is doing my head in. Neutral

    New bearing hub assembly...

Just a bit of a heads up for anyone looking to replace a complete pre-assembled bearing hub on a D5 like you could on D3's and D4's...they're not available as a complete pre assembled unit for D5's. You have to buy a wheel bearing kit separately and press the new wheel bearing into the old hub.

Without a hydraulic press and bearing puller/installation tools, it's a garage job only. I had to drag my old press from under a ton of tractor bits at the back of the workshop, luckily enough, my 85mm bearing tool kit was still hiding in the bottom of my tool chest.

The relatively simple job went from removing 4 bolts on the hub assembly and bolting a new pre-assembled unit in place into knocking old bearing and wheel hub out and pressing a new bearing and hub assembly in.

PITA job. My advice, if your wheel bearings go, take it to a decent indy. Doing it DIY is a no go if you don't have a press and a wheel bearing tool kit. Neutral
