I was going to change at 12 months for a Petrol but obviously cant so not sure what to do now

TBH I’m not that bothered about the message showing on the dash, I prefer to use the phone as I can pick it up and hold the phone close to my eyes to enable me to read the message. It’s much safer this way as squinting at the centre display doing 90mph gets a bit scary especially if you are trying to eat a bag of hot chips with curry sauce at the same time.

I've always got a pop up asking if I want the received text message to be read out.

TBH its a pain as the voice is too fast when it reads it out!

Think the car needs a dust though - I'll have to find a problem with it so that I can return it to the dealer....

The difference appears to be whether your car has a CD player or not. For those without the owners manual has instructions on operation - for those cars with a CD player that section is missing.

Why there is a difference is inexplicable.

Thanks to jimbg but I can only go by the manuals - it's only the manuals for D5 without CD player that has any reference to text messaging - the manual for those with a CD player ( mine included) has no reference to text messaging at all.

Gwyn,

Have a look at a brochure and read about Incontrol and all will become clear. there are 2 systems with different software and it has nothing to do with CD drives.

There are a lot of differences between the 2 systems.

Obvious ones are:-

Different screen sizes
Hard buttons instead of soft buttons
Different software including said text facility
Difference between model years
And of course having a CD or not.
